Our history

VEKA has been a major force in the PVCu industry for almost as long as the material has been used for frames. Established in Germany in 1969, VEKA is still owned by the same family and has remained focused on delivering reliability, sustainability, and stability to all of our partners.

VEKA was founded in Germany as VekaPlast.
1986
The UK story begins.

VekaPlast expanded enough to build a production unit in the UK-in Burnley, Lancashire.

1987
Less than a year old, the company is already expanding. It adds 20,000sq ft to the factory – and buys a third truck!

We pioneer the industry with a massive investment in state-of-the-art CAD drawing facilities.

Training Conference
1990
In an industry weighed down by a very mixed quality record, we lead the field by launching a major training facility.
VEKA Site and Lancashire views
1991
The name is VEKA now and, along with yet more expansion, we hit the road with ‘Big Rig’ – the £250,000 Mobile Exhibition Unit.

Our VEKATRIM foam range is born, based on the acquisition of the Hollicell production unit from GKN the year before.

A milestone year for us – and the industry. The birth of the Matrix integrated profile system sets a new industry standard; a standard that has still not been equalled even today.

2003
VEKA enters massive new home improvement sectors with VEKAGATES and the VEKAStyle range of decorative interior panelling. 
VEKA Matrix Fully Sculptured
2004
Matrix Fully Sculptured brings a stylish new softer look to windows with sculptured edges replacing all chamfers.
A Rated Window Scale
2005
The UK’s first window to gain BFRC “A” Rating is a VEKA window. 
Fully Reversible Window
2008
We massively expand our product range with the launch of the Fully Reversible Window, Vertical Slider and VEKA Composite Door System. 
Inline Patio Door
2010
We launch the new In-line Sliding Patio Door debuted at the Fensterbau exhibition in Germany. 
Bowater Logo
2011
Acquisition of Bowater Building Products, including Halo. 
2012
Our £10m investment programme begins in the UK.
VEKA UK Mixing Plant
2013
We build a state-of-the-art multi-million pound mixing plant at the Burnley site.
Imagine Grey Bi-folds
2014
We launch the next generation Imagine Bi-Fold Door; the UK’s first Bi-Fold to achieve BSI Kitemark standards.
Approved Installer Scheme
2014
We launch the VEKA and Halo Approved Installer Scheme, working in partnership with fabricators.
Gealan
2014
Acquisition of our competitor GEALAN, taking our annual turnover to €899 million.

We now have 40 subsidiaries around the world including facilities across Europe, Asia, the Americas and Russia; over 400 extrusion lines; more than 6,000 employees; and an annual turnover greater than 1.1 billion Euros.
