Heinrich Laumann, founder of VEKA AG, died on Monday, September 3 at the age of 89. At the end of a long and fulfilling life he peacefully passed away surrounded by his family. With his death, the window industry loses one of their most distinguished entrepreneurs of the last 50 years.
As Heinrich Laumann, at the time 40 years old, started with the company VEKAPLAST in Sendenhorst in 1969, nobody could have imagined that the company would develop into one of the most important worldwide leaders of PVC profile systems for windows, doors and roller shutters as well as PVC sheets in only 50 years.
His vision, courage and passion turned VEKA AG into what it is today. Together with his employees, he led the company to extraordinary domestic and international success and growth. Throughout his life, he was highly respected for his deep sense of responsibility, his entrepreneurial vision and his fine sense of what is possible. His friendly and always down to earth, natural way of dealing with people, his ability to act successfully and at the same time remaining focused made him into the outstanding entrepreneurial personality that he was.
Heinrich Laumann was not only able to motivate people but he was able to win them over with his ideas. He influenced an entire industry with his farsighted decisions and innovations. The company’s construction of their own factory for the recycling of PVC windows only touches the surface of his innovations. This pioneer work, beginning back in 1993, is to this day the key to the sustainable handling with PVC windows.
Heinrich Laumann always orientated his business towards high quality and thereby positively influencing the development of PVC windows in Germany. Due to his vision and his perseverance, more than 5,600 employees in 38 locations worldwide are grateful for their secure workplace today.
His great sense of social responsibility, a key driving force in the day- to-day business of Heinrich Laumann, was also demonstrated by his involvement in charitable causes. In 2008 he established together with his wife Rita the „the Heinrich and Rita Laumann Foundation“. It is committed to helping the elderly and ill.
Heinrich Laumann was an honorary citizen of the town Sendenhorst and a recipient of the German Federal Service Cross of Merit Award (Bundesverdienstkreuz am Bande). He received this honour for his greatest accomplishments – his entrepreneurial achievement in the building up and expansion of his company in Sendenhorst as well as for his outstanding personal contribution to society and personal engagement for people and nature.
On behalf of the family, Andreas Hartleif, chairman of the board and son-in-law of Heinrich Laumann says: „With gratitude and sorrow we say goodbye to a wonderful person and an outstanding personality with a remarkable life’s achievement. We will continue his life’s work with due respect and in his spirit. “
