We’re committing to moving more and clocking up 52,000 miles of activity together to support Kelly’s Heroes as they tackle the Loneliest Road challenge, raising awareness for mental health support & suicide prevention.

The Loneliest Road

We Mind & Kelly Matters was formed in 2019 after the devastating loss of a beautiful daughter, sister and friend Kelly Francesca Hewitt. The charity strives to promote and keep mental health at the forefront, through awareness and raising funds to enable We Mind & Kelly Matters to continue delivering much needed Mental Health support in local communities.

On 10th September (World Suicide Prevention day) Kelly’s Heroes will set out to cycle part of Europe and right across America, with the European leg covering more than 1800 miles. The US leg covers four different time zones and crosses seven mountain ranges, climbing 145,000 feet.  The ride has been purposefully timed to end on 10th October 2022 (World Mental Health Day).

The month-long challenge is set to clock up 52,000 miles – the equivalent of going around the world twice.

VEKA Group is the headline sponsor for the Loneliest Road and we’re asking our employees, suppliers and customers to get involved and contribute to our mileage goal to support Kelly’s Heroes.

We would love as many people as possible to get behind this and help us reach our 52,000 mile goal, this may include, cycling, walking, running, jogging, hiking, swimming, whatever it may be to contribute to our total miles! You can do this either physically or virtually, submitting your miles each week to contribute to our total mile count.

Walk, run, swim or cycle, the choice is yours. We just want everyone to move more and help us to raise awareness for this life saving charity.

Please send in your weekly miles, steps or time (don’t worry we’ll do the working out for you) to add to our total count.

Log your miles


You can join our Step-by-Step campaign by emailing . Don’t forget to include your address and hoodie size so we know where to send your Step-by-Step hoodie to.

By registering you agree to send your tracked miles via email each week until Friday 19th September to contribute to our total miles travelled.

There are plenty of free apps on your phone you can use to track your miles such as Apple Health and Strava. Fitbits and health watches will also track your daily miles. If you aren’t able to log miles don’t worry, you can send through steps or time and we can covert this to miles. We just want you to get moving and raise awareness.

Based on an average person’s stride it takes about 15-20 minutes to walk one mile and is equivalent to roughly 2000 steps.

You can walk, run, skip, hop, jog, cycle, swim or skate. It’s up to you how you choose to complete your miles. All that we ask is that you’re moving and clocking up the miles to support Kelly’s Heroes.

As well as logging your miles you can purchase our bike bells and pet bandanas or donate to Kelly’s Heroes via their Just Giving page.

Just as important as logging miles and donations is the commitment from individuals to share your efforts across all social channels and make sure Step-by-Step and Kelly’s Heroes messages are firmly placed in people’s minds.
