Introducing a new glazing bead to help fabricators reach a U-Value of 1.2
September 27, 2022
We have launched a new glazing bead to support fabricators in achieving lower U-Values, after new legislation, that has recently been implemented in England, is due to be rolled out across Scotland and Wales.
Currently, the U-Value for windows in new dwellings is 1.2 W/m2K in England. In Scotland new regulations from December will also require a 1.2 U-Value, whilst in Wales it will be 1.3 from November.
VEKA is committed to supporting its customers to navigate these changes. The new 24mm bead, which has been designed for the VEKA Matrix Fully Sculptured system, is a direct replacement of the 28mm bead, features improved fitting detail and is available ex- stock in 13 colour options.
Paul Kennington, Technical Director of VEKA plc commented on the development saying,
“Giving fabricators the option of using 24mm glass – which is the optimum size for argon gas – rather than the standard 28mm, will improve the overall performance of the window up to 0.1, which although seems small, could make a huge difference when it comes to achieving the required U-Value using a double-glazed unit. From an installer perspective, this bead also makes the install quicker and is less likely to get damaged should they need to de-glaze.”
