Mayor of Mid and East Antrim visits VEKA fabricator, Fairco: Making waves in local employment and investment

September 14, 2023

VEKA fabricator, Fairco, recently welcomed Mayor Alderman Geraldine Mulvenna on her recent visit to their Carrickfergus facility. The visit was part of Mid and East Antrim Council’s efforts to highlight successful foreign investments and the resulting local employment in Northern Ireland.

Established in 2020, in the midst of the pandemic, Fairco has gone from strength to strength. “Setting up a new fabrication business during Covid was no small feat,” said Jim Toal, Managing Director of Fairco. “We faced challenges in locating the right premises, sourcing the right machinery, and recruiting local talent. Thankfully, partnering with VEKA helped us navigate through these challenges to produce the highest quality products.”

The local council approached Fairco to spotlight their success story in attracting foreign investment and creating local jobs. The firm, which currently employs 12 local workers, has plans to expand its workforce further by fostering a positive workplace culture.

“Gary Malone and Robert Mc Curry, our facility managers, have been invaluable. They implemented a four-day workweek without compromising on the output or quality. This helped us attract the experienced fabricators we needed,” Toal added.

Fairco also recently opened a new showroom attracting local householders and trade customers. This comes in addition to a significant investment in machinery, enabling Fairco to fabricate an additional 100 frames per week.

Mayor Mulvenna was impressed by the dedication of the workforce and the quality of products. “She was particularly excited to hear that 80% of the products produced in the factory are exported,” Toal shared. The Council has since offered additional financial support, keen to see this enterprise succeed.

“Receiving attention and recognition from the Mayor and the Council means a lot to us. It’s a testament to our team’s hard work and our commitment to quality and local employment,” Toal concluded.
